Hymn Arrangements for Jazz Worship
The goal of these arrangements…
…is to be easily accessible for congregational singing and enjoyable for jazz musicians to play. My hope is that they will enliven worship with a fresh, soulful, toe-tapping musical perspective on familiar hymns.
Each arrangement is crafted with piano, bass, and drum set in mind. Freely add other instrumentalists to double the melody, harmonize, or improvise on the chord changes provided. Lead sheets transposed for Bb, Eb, and bass clef instruments are available. Piano and bass parts are fully notated in most cases., but rhythm section players should feel free to improvise their accompaniment figures and interpret the arrangement as they would in any jazz setting. A vocal cantor is helpful to lead the congregational singing. The cantor and congregation will be able to use a hymnal to sing along with the arrangement.
Demo recordings are available here for many of the arrangements listed at the button below. Prices and information about each arrangement are included in the listing. Click the button below for the full listing of arrangements.
